Exploring language & the musical voice of beatboxing @ Harvard University

Chesney_Snow

American Beatboxer executive producer Chesney Snow will lead a workshop and exploration into the art, history, and craft of beatboxing as part of the Learning From Performers visiting artist’s program at Harvard University. He will be accompanied by some of America’s most jaw dropping and mind blowing beatboxers including Kenny Urban, Amit Bhowmick, Kaila Mullady, Christopher Celiz, Omni Prum, Johnny Buffalo, and Gene Shinozaki.

Beatboxers use the human voice to transform the phonetics of language into instruments, sound effects, and entire songs. Where do the sounds of a beatboxer originate? If you can speak, then you most certainly can beatbox.

Experience the history and art of beatboxing, or vocal percussion—producing musical sounds and beat patterns using the lips, tongue, mouth, throat, and voice—at this workshop and “beatboxing battle” led by Chesney Snow, a Drama Desk award-winning actor, beatboxer, poet, musician and songwriter, co-sponsored by Harvard’s Hiphop Archive and Research Institute.

Workshop Space is limited; RSVP to Deena Anderson, dmanders@fas.harvard.edu Send Email

American Beatboxer  will be screened the day before at Askwith Lecture Hall at the Graduate School of Education on Friday, October 24, at 5:30 pm; admission is free (RSVPs are not required).
